Windows xp recognizes that an external drive is installed but wont display the files.? - sample pictures in windows xp

My external hard disk is my Media Drive, I think all my music files, pictures and sound source samples that shows all my songs and instrumental pieces products (ten years of work) now the XP CD is there, but access is not displayed and the content may or the file from the external drive. If I lose content wrong everything I breathed in the music industry to lose. please help this is a new problem and the reduction is not an option
